You know you are not posting enough when you look at the last posting and it's almost opposite than what's going on now.
You know you aren't posting enough when your Facebook page has more hits than your blog.
This kind of reminds me of the status of my multiple diaries and journals throughout the years. As you start to read through the entries, you start noticing patterns of when you actually sit down and write. The top three reasons your blog gets updated: 1) You're really happy about something. 2) You're really sad/mad about something. 3) You're bored. I guess I take all three.
So, since the last time I wrote, we have decided to stay in Ben Lomond no matter what it takes. Whether we rent or buy, we are going to find a way. Steven is just too involved with the fire department. We both have great jobs. The kids love the school they are at. I know the teachers because some of them used to be mine. Our family and friends are here. We just can't part. So we will do everything we can to survive here. Yes, moving can be frustrating but you do what you can to be happy, and we feel that happiness is our family in Ben Lomond.
In other news, Duquan is improving in soccer. He was doing really well, so well that he was asked to try out for the comp team. He made the team, but he seemed to get really intimidated this year. I think he let it go to his head that he was playing with older boys and it affected his game. But he has been showing improvement in the last few games. He also is playing a different role than he has in the past. He's always played defender and this year they made him midfield. As some of you soccer/fotball enthusiasts know, midfielder is a different mindset. It's being a defender with the intention of playing and helping the offense. As a defender, you just have to think about two things: get the ball out and get the ball up. As a midfielder, it's get the ball, pass to a teammate, get open, set up the shot, slide tackle opponents and get the ball to a teammate, etc. A lot more thinking and strategy at midfield. Duquan is a natural defender: protect yours. And he definitely knows how to do that. Now that he had to also think ATTACK!!! I think it scared him a bit. At least, he wasn't used to that mentality. But I can see it building in him. They have one more season game and a tournament. We'll see how they do.
Jaden is growing leaps and bounds. She's in first grade this year. She has had a little difficulty at the beginning, especially with reading and doing school work. We found that she was anxious and not confident in her own abilities. But with the help of her reading teacher, Mrs. Mount (my English teacher from 8th grade), she really has grasped the idea of sounding out words and working out the words. We discovered that she gets really anxious that she's going to do something "wrong" - write down the wrong answer, say the word wrong, etc - and it was making her freeze and not try. We've really had to work with her to let her know that getting things "wrong" is part of the learning process. So we tell her the directions of her homework, she goes to her desk and does each problem by herself, then she comes to us and we review her answers together. It seems to be working so far. Of course, parent/teacher conferences are this week, so we'll see how she's really doing.
Both the kids are doing great though. They have such an energy about them, a zest. They both enjoy and love going to Sunday School at the nearby church and they have joined the children's choir. For the Christmas pageant, Jaden will be Mary and Duquan will be Joseph. Jaden says, "Duquan's going to be the husband which is weird for real life, but it's just a play. We're acting." I can only laugh. I'm so glad she has such a strong grasp on what's real and what's ... drama. They are great kids and we couldn't be more proud of them.
